Apples

Apples are the top crop here on Terrapin ridge. We’ve got about a dozen different apple varieties that vary in ripening from late August through Halloween. The full spectrum of old time favorites, new-fangled ones that taste like pineapples, ones for baking, and did we mention Evercrisp? If you don’t know about those, you best come to find out. Terroir is a term used by fancy wine drinking folks to describe how soil types, climate, and specific management practices can alter flavors in wine grapes. Our limestone hills, upper Midwest climate, and some fancy farming tricks help us to grow what we regularly hear as “the best Honeycrisp I’ve ever tasted.” You best find out if we’re bluffing

We recognize for some folks it's about the experience, and by gosh we want you to pick your own apples. Depending on when you come during the season our pick your own varieties change, but most of the time we have 2 options for you. Our trees are all true dwarf trees and only get to be about 10 feet tall. The biggest advantage to high density dwarf trees is that they’re really easy to pick. There’s fruit 2 feet from the ground so even the littlest pickers can get in on the fun. If we’re picking in our lower orchard when you visit you’ll score a covered wagon ride as part of the deal too! If you feel that you’ve done enough labor in your life, rest assured; We offer apples washed and ready to buy in our store if you appreciate a full service option.

While fruit may be enough for some folks, it's obvious that a little bit of wow added to an apple can make things wild, so we do our part to dress ‘em up if you’re into that. We make fresh Mini cider donuts everyday during apple season, and they’re a hit with the local crowd. The Caramel we use for our caramel apples is so good we drive 4 hours to buy it by the pickup truck load! Come here on the right day and you may be able to score yourself a homemade apple pie too.
